On The Road 

Mobilia´s new exhibition “On the Road” is an exhibition about traveling.  

The exhibition takes a look at earlier traveling, when travel mainly concerned the more affluent people.  In the 1920´s and 1930´s car tourism was promoted by Automobile and Touring Clubs, especially tourism in Lapland. Lapland has been a popular tourist destination for decades. Also buses have offered opportunities for traveling since the 1920´s. People’s free time and wealth increased in the 1960´s and 1970´s, and traveling became possible for more and more people. As the number of cars increased also camping tourism increased in the 1960´s. At first, accommodation was mainly in tents. In the 1980´s, overnight stays in cabins, caravans and cars became more common.
