The Soundtrack of Finnish Roads
An Exhibition about 110 Years of Finland’s Musical Road Transport History.
The Soundtrack of Finnish Roads celebrates Finland and the history of its transport culture through songs about roads, travel, and movement. In countless songs people travel on horseback and on foot, kick-start their mopeds, follow wherever the road may lead, and fall in love with the freedom of car rides.
Alongside these means of transport, an entire nation is on the move: Finland travels from a newly independent and impoverished agricultural country through the war years, urbanisation, and the rise of the welfare state, from the economic recessions of the late twentieth century to the global trade networks of the new millennium. These transformations are reflected on rich tradition of transport-themed music, which Mobilia presents together with the vehicles and modes of travel featured in the songs.
Created in honour of the 110th anniversary of Finland’s independence, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the nation’s road transport history through music, memories, and mobility. Hop on board on a musical journey through the history of Finnish road transport!
The Soundtrack of Finnish Roads exhibition opens at Mobilia on 25 March 2027.
